Gutter Repair and Installation in Okatie, SC

Ridgeland sits deeper in Jasper County, and its gutter issues are inland, heavy pine canopy, dense shade, and intense summer storms, not salt air. Questions We Hear from Ridgeland Property Owners

Almost certainly pine needle tenting. Loblolly needles are long enough to bridge across a standard screen and form a mat on top of it. Rain hits the mat and sheds over the edge rather than entering the channel. The gutter looks clear from the ground but isn’t doing anything useful during a storm. Quality micro-mesh guards handle this significantly better — we’ll assess what’s overhead at your property and tell you whether it makes sense.

More serious in Jasper County than in most markets. Ridgeland’s shade and humidity keep wood damp for extended periods, which accelerates soft-rot. Formosan subterranean termites are documented in this area, and damaged, moisture-softened wood is a primary attractant. We check fascia condition on every estimate visit. If it’s already compromised, we tell you what that repair involves before any gutter work is ordered.

Likely contributing to them. Many older Ridgeland homes were guttered on the front and left open on the rear — which was common practice in an earlier era but creates concentrated runoff along the back foundation wall. Over time that shows up as footer erosion, siding staining, or persistent dampness in the crawl space. We assess the full roofline on every estimate, including the back, and factor in what’s happening at the foundation before making a recommendation.

Significantly worse. The afternoon convection storms that build over Jasper County in summer can push two inches of rain in under an hour. A gutter system that handles spring showers without issue can be completely overwhelmed by that kind of intensity, especially if there’s any partial blockage or if the system was undersized to begin with. It’s the most common reason we get calls in July and August from homeowners whose gutters were ‘working fine’ a few months earlier.

At minimum twice a year — after spring oak tassel and pollen season, and before the summer storm window. Homes under significant Loblolly canopy, which is most of the rural corridors around Ridgeland, often need three to four cleanings annually. The needle load here is heavier and more constant than in most coastal markets we serve.

That’s splash-back from a downspout that’s either discharging too close to the foundation or missing a diversion extension. Ridgeland’s soil has enough clay content that runoff doesn’t absorb — it channels along the footer and carries red clay up onto whatever is in the way. It’s a fixable problem, but it means the foundation has been taking water repeatedly. We look at downspout placement and exit points as part of every assessment.
